In a period or older brick home, a double or triple pinch pleat in a substantial fabric reads correctly where a modern wave heading can look imported from a display home. The pleat is defined, the fabric hangs in disciplined columns, and it works equally well on a timber or wrought iron rod as it does on a track. Bay windows need to be measured on site.

Beaconsfield has more bay windows than anywhere else we work, and no two are the same. The angles are rarely a tidy 45 degrees, the reveals are often out of square, and the sill depth changes across the bay. A bay is either handled with a track bent to the actual angles or a bay rod with elbow joints, and either way it is a site measure, not something anyone can quote off a phone photo. A bent heavy-duty track runs $220 to $600 depending on the span and how many bends it needs. Done properly, the curtain follows the bay and closes cleanly at every corner instead of gapping at the bends.

Heat loss through old glazing.

Beaconsfield sits higher and colder than the flats, and the older housing stock is largely single glazed. On a still winter night the air touching that glass cools, drops, and pulls warm room air across to replace it, which is the convection loop that empties your heating out through the window. A lined floor-length curtain on a track, with a pelmet or a decent return at each end so the top and sides are closed off, is one of the few genuinely effective and affordable ways to interrupt that loop. Once you get above the highway toward Beaconsfield Upper and Guys Hill the rooms get bigger, the ceilings get higher and the exposure gets serious. Drops of 2.4 metres and beyond are common, and a long drop in a heavy interlined fabric puts real weight on the hardware. That is a heavy-duty track job with proper brackets at closer centres, not a light domestic extrusion. It is also where fabric choice matters most, because a big room in a textured linen-look or velvet feels completely different to the same room in a flat polyester.
