What to have ready before we come
Nothing is compulsory, but the measure goes faster and the quote comes back sharper if you have thought about a few things first. You do not need measurements from us, we take those ourselves, and you should be wary of anyone who quotes curtains off numbers you read off a tape yourself.
- Which rooms need to go dark. Bedrooms and media rooms usually want blockout. Living, dining and hallway windows are often better in sheers alone, and putting blockout everywhere is the fastest way to blow a budget on a job that would have looked better softer.
- Whether there is an existing track or pelmet. A sound heavy-duty track can sometimes be reused, which saves $90 to $600 a window. An existing pelmet also changes the heading options, because an S-fold behind a pelmet is often wasted money.
- Floor coverings, current and planned. If carpet is going in after the curtains, we need to know now. A 12mm difference between a hard floor and a carpet with underlay is the difference between a hem that just kisses the floor and one that puddles.
- Which way the room faces. A north or west-facing Pakenham room copes with brutal summer sun and will fade a cheap unlined fabric within a couple of seasons. South-facing rooms are the ones that feel cold and damp, and are where lining choice earns its keep.
- A rough budget. Not to spend it, but so we point you at the right shelf of the sample book. There is a genuinely good curtain at $300 a window and a beautiful one at $900, and the honest conversation about where the difference goes is worth having up front.
